G7 might agree in Hiroshima to limit Russia's diamond exports

The Group of Seven (G7) countries are planning to come to an agreement on limiting the export of Russian diamonds at the summit in Japan, reported from TASS.

According to him, a corresponding statement on limiting the export of natural diamonds from Russia should be adopted at the G7 summit in Hiroshima, which will be held May 19-21.

Earlier, a source in Brussels said that the EU at the G7 summit in Hiroshima will discuss sanctions against diamonds from Russia, this topic may be mentioned in the final statement, but no practical decisions are expected yet. According to the diplomat, Brussels has not put forward specific proposals yet, because preliminary consultations with partners are necessary. As in the case of restrictions on prices for oil and oil products, the EU cannot impose such sanctions on its own, the source stressed. To do this, it is necessary to create a mechanism for tracking the origin of diamonds.

One of the main opponents of the introduction of unilateral EU restrictions on diamonds from Russia is Belgium, which fears that if the sanctions do not become global, then Russian exports will simply go to the Middle East and India, and the Antwerp diamond business will suffer huge losses, which the kingdom has not yet even can evaluate.
