Zarif is scheduled to arrive in the Azerbaijani capital on Feb. 16 and leave two days later.

He will meet President Ilham Aliyev and Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov.

Discussions during the visit will focus on Iranian-Azerbaijani relations and regional security, Azartac said.

Azerbaijan has had a difficult relationship with Iran since the country regained its independence from the former Soviet Union.

Relations have warmed after Hassan Rouhani replaced Mahmoud Ahmadinejad as Iran’s president in 2013.
