Kremlin comments on latest developments in Karabakh

Official Moscow is concerned about the latest developments in the South Caucasus due to the aggravation of the situation and calls on the parties to exercise restraint, said Dmitry Peskov, the press secretary of the President of Russia.

"Indeed, we are watching very carefully, and we are naturally concerned about the aggravation of the situation. We call on the parties to exercise restraint, most importantly, to comply with all the provisions of the well-known tripartite documents,” Peskov said.

Peskov noted that close contacts between the Russian Federation and Armenia at various levels will help clarify the questions that Yerevan has about the work of Russian peacekeepers.

"There are tripartite documents that are the main starting point. The main thing is to fulfill all the obligations the parties have taken under these documents. If there are questions, then, of course, they should be answered,” Peskov said, adding that the existing close contacts at various levels with the Armenian side would make it possible to clarify all issues.

Today, at a government meeting, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated that the latest events in Karabakh raise some questions about the activities of Russian peacekeepers.

Peskov also said that a telephone conversation between the presidents of Azerbaijan and Russia, Ilham Aliyev and Vladimir Putin, is not planned for the near future, but may be arranged if necessary.
