Azerbaijan adopts new format for national identity cards

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev has signed amendments to the Law on Identity Cards, introducing a new format for national IDs. Under the new rules, the cards will now include information on the holder’s residence and citizenship.
Only essential personal data will be stored on the electronic chip. Details such as family status, children, and military service will be stored in a protected interagency system called IAMAS.
The grounds for replacing the ID card have also been revised: a change of residence will now require reissuance. Corrections of technical or content-related errors will be made free of charge.
