Trump to host Aliyev and Pashinyan for landmark peace deal in Washington

US President Donald Trump is set to host Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan at the White House on Friday to sign a historic peace initiative aimed at ending decades of conflict.
The summit will unveil the “Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity” (TRIPP), a commercial corridor through southern Armenia connecting Azerbaijan to Nakhchivan, while preserving Armenia’s sovereignty.
Officials said the deal includes a joint declaration, initialing of a peace agreement, and a coordinated exit from the OSCE Minsk Group. The TRIPP project is civilian in nature and backed by US technical and commercial operators.
Outstanding issues include prisoner releases and constitutional changes. Critics warn that closer US ties with Baku could undermine Washington’s human rights advocacy in the region.
