Trump invites Azerbaijan to join new ‘Peace Council’ initiative in letter to Aliyev
U.S. President Donald Trump has sent a letter to Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, formally inviting Azerbaijan to join his international “Peace Council” initiative.
In the letter, Trump said it would be an honour for Azerbaijan to become a founding member of the proposed body, which he described as a new international organisation aimed at advancing peace, including in the Middle East.
Trump said the initiative builds on a comprehensive plan to end the Gaza conflict unveiled in September 2025 and later endorsed by United Nations Security Council Resolution 2803.
He added that the Peace Council would operate as a new international governance structure, with member states able to appoint authorised representatives to participate in its work.
