DNA profiles of 50 missing Armenians do not match remains found in Azerbaijan
DNA profiles of 50 missing ethnic Armenians provided by Armenia in January did not match human remains found in Azerbaijan, Ali Nagiyev, head of Azerbaijan’s State Commission on Prisoners of War, Hostages and Missing Persons, said on Tuesday.
“Examinations found no matches between the DNA profiles of 50 ethnic Armenians reported missing and provided by Armenia in January 2026 and the remains discovered,” Nagiyev told an international conference in Baku.
He said Azerbaijan had asked Armenia to provide relevant DNA samples to help identify remains found in territories retaken by Azerbaijan and believed to belong to Armenian servicemen.
Nagiyev said Baku was ready to continue cooperation with Yerevan to determine the fate of missing persons from both sides.
The relevant Azerbaijani and Armenian commissions established direct contacts in February 2025.
