Azerbaijan arrests top security officers for extortion

Several senior officers of the Ministry of National Security were arrested on Monday for abuse of office, pro-government media reported.
The unnamed officers exceeded office, carrying out illegal inspections of businesses and demanding money.
The investigation is led by Rustam Usubov, first deputy prosecutor-general.
Former National Security Minister Eldar Mahmudov isn’t among those arrested, the reports said.
President Ilham Aliyev last week called for an end to illegal inspections and extortion of businesses. He promised tough action against those who violate the law.
