Azerbaijani envoy praises Saudi role in world affairs

The envoy made his observation prior to the 12th session of the General Conference of the Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO) which will be held in Baku from Nov. 26-27, under the aegis of President Ilham Aliyev.

He said Deputy Minister for Education Affairs Dr. Mohammad bin Abdul Aziz Al-Ohali will lead the Saudi delegation to the Baku event. 

The Baku event will elect the director general, confirm membership of the executive council, and determine the date and venue for its future meeting, said the envoy. 

Rzayev said that Saudi Arabia was one of the first countries to recognize Azerbaijan as an independent republic after the dissolution of the once-powerful Soviet Union in December 1991. Diplomatic relations between Saudi Arabia and Azerbaijan were established in 1992. 

"Since that date, our relationship has gone from strength to strength over the years,” the envoy said, adding this includes banking, joint projects, agriculture, petrochemical industry, ICT, tourism and construction.

Saudi Arabia has managed over the past decades to take its high position among the nations of the world, he added. It has become a key player in regional and international community, and has become a durable state that cannot be bypassed in the regional and international meetings, thanks to the wise leadership and policies of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman.

The two countries just signed a deal on air communication that would pave the way for the upcoming direct flight from Baku to Jeddah, the envoy added. 

On the agenda of the ISESCO event, he said it will feature a draft three-year action plan and the ISESCO Director General’s progress reports on the organization’s activities.

He said the conference, composed of member states’ ministers working in ISESCO’s fields of competence, meets at a regular session every three years, with the presence of representatives of regional and international organizations.
