Chelsea and Man United set for £50m summer transfer battle for Spurs star Harry Kane

Chelsea and Man United set for £50m summer transfer battle for Spurs star Harry Kane

United eyed a move for Kane, who is valued at around £50m, before the start of the season.

Starsport understands Louis van Gaal is still keen on a swoop and is willing to pay big bucks to get him.

But now rivals Chelsea are ready to fight hammer and tongs to sign the England ace next summer, according to the Mail.

It’s claimed Stamford Bridge scouts will use Sunday's clash against Spurs to watch Kane to glean more information for their transfer dossier.

Chelsea are desperately trying to line up a new central striker with question marks over Diego Costa's future.

Signing Kane, 22, would be an attractive proposition as he would add to Chelsea’s homegrown quota.

But Spurs are adamant their star man is not for sale at any price.

Chairman Daniel Levy insisted over the summer he wouldn’t let Kane go.

The club then handed the hitman a new £35,000-a-week contract, which expires in 2020.

If Chelsea do get a move over the line, it would rank as one of the most surprising in football history given the fierce rivalry between the two clubs.

Carlo Cudicini became the last player to cross the Spurs-Chelsea divide in 2009.
