All thoughts turned to last week’s Brussels murders as Portugal entertained Belgium in Leiria in the re-arranged fixture.

Portugal had two former Man United players to thank for two first-half goals, Nani put Portugal ahead with a silky finish after 20 minutes.

Then on 40 minutes that man Cristiano Ronaldo scored a superb header.

In the second half Everton’s Romelu Lukaku headed home to get Belgium back in the game.

And that was how it ended.

Portugal 2-1 Belgium.

Germany were keen to get back to winning ways against Italy in Munich following defeat against England last Friday.

Leicester City’s N’golo Kante spread the word to give France the lead against Russia in Paris.

Andre-Pierre Gignac made it two for the home side.

Alexander Kokorin got Russia on the scoresheet.

One of the Premier League’s players of the season, West Ham’s Dimitri Payet slotted home a gem of a free-kick.

Russia were not finished Yuri Zhirkov scored for the visitors only for Kingsley Coman to restore the home sides two goal cushion.

France 4-2 Russia.
