Jordan Parsons, 25, was struck by the vehicle as he walked across the street in Delray Beach, Floria, shortly after midnight on Saturday night.

Police said the driver then sped away, leaving the athlete gravely injured in the road.

The severity of Parsons’ wounds forced doctors into a full amputation of the featherweight’s right leg.

On Monday, UFC fighter Rashad Evans said Parsons was fighting for his life in a coma after requiring emergency heart surgery.

But in a statement released last night, Parsons’ fight promoters, Bellator MMA, confirmed he had passed away.

"It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of a dear member of the Bellator family, Jordan Parsons,” President Scott Coker told Bleacher Report.

"It is a terribly tragic loss, and our thoughts and prayers go out to his family, friends and teammates.”

Delray Beach Police Department said in a Facebook post on Monday: "Parsons was on the south side of the intersection, walking in the crosswalk.

"The vehicle hit Parsons and fled, leaving him lying in the roadway.

"A nearby DBPD officer, Derek Chahine, arrived on scene very quickly and applied pressure to Parsons’ severe leg wound until Delray Beach Fire Rescue responded and transported Parsons to Delray Medical Centre.”

Investigators say they are looking for a silver 2012 or 2013 Range Rover Sport after officers found a side view mirror from that model at the crash scene.

Parsons won in his first professional fight at the age of 17, quickly rising through the ranks as a promising young talent.

In 2014, "Pretty Boy” signed with six-fight deal with promoters Bellator MMA.

The young contender had a career record of 11-2 and was scheduled to fight Adam Piccolotti on the main card of Bellator’s May 14 event.
