Turkish professor: Armenia must answer for its crimes in international tribunal
"We had the same feelings in Turkey as the Azerbaijani people suffered here during the war," Professor Cagri Erhan, Altınbas University Rector, Member of the Security and Foreign Policy Council under the President of Turkey, told a conference on "44-Day of Victory" at ADA University.
He said the national flags of the two countries fluttered across Turkey. "Your victory was a victory celebrated wholeheartedly by the Turkish nation. This victory could not have been achieved without the courage of the Azerbaijani Army, irrespective of the state-of-the-art weapons and military forces. It took heart to win the war. The citizens of Azerbaijan also showed this determination and achieved it at the cost of their lives.
"I bow to their spirit. We witnessed excellent public diplomacy during and after this war. President Ilham Aliyev's interviews with international media were very important. In the video materials from the liberated territories demonstrated after the war, we could see the barbarism committed there. Not only Azerbaijan but also the Turkish government suffered from the Armenian lobby. Although we have proof, we know we are right, but we have not been able to prove it."
The rector said that Armenia had destroyed the occupied lands for 30 years. "I have visited Karabakh twice and seen the situation there with my own eyes. I have never seen such a scene in my life. This is a violation of international law. We must work on these issues. Those responsible must appear before the international tribunal since what has happened constitutes military crimes. Karabakh is already part of Azerbaijan."
