Germany not affected by suspension of Russian gas supplies to Shell, government says

Gazprom's decision to stop gas supplies to Shell Energy Europe due to non-payment in rubles did not affect the situation with gas supplies in Germany, according to the daily report of the Federal Network Agency, which was published on Wednesday.

"The shutdown of supplies for Shell covers only small volumes and so far has not affected the situation with gas supply in Germany," the regulator said, noting that energy security in Germany is ensured.

"Currently, about 4% less gas is transported through the Nord Stream 1 gas pipeline than the day before. These volumes of gas are purchased elsewhere," the regulator added.

The situation with gas supply in Germany is stable, "the country's energy security remains secured," and gas storage facilities are 48.6% full. The current level of occupancy of gas storage facilities is higher than in the spring of 2015, 2017, 2018, and 2021, the report said.

The day before, Gazprom Export announced that from June 1, it would suspend Russian gas supplies under the rsted contract, as well as to the European division of the British Shell - Shell Energy Europe Limited. This is due to both companies' failure to pay for gas delivered in April and refusal to make payments in rubles. The contract between Gazprom Export and Shell Energy Europe for gas supply to Germany provides for up to 1.2 billion cubic meters of gas per year
