France is negotiating with the UAE on the issue of oil supplies in exchange for Russian exports, French Minister of Economy and Finance Bruno Le Maire said, reported from foreign media.

"We are in discussions with the United Arab Emirates,” the minister said June 5 on air of Europe 1 radio station.

He noted that France is looking for sources to replace Russian oil. The authorities are also looking into how to replace Russian gas.

On June 3, EU countries approved a plan providing for the six-month waiver of most of their oil imports from Russia as part of the sixth package of sanctions.

The EU has decided to ban the purchase, import, transfer of crude oil and some petroleum products from Russia. The process will take six months, and for petroleum products - eight months, the EU Council said in a communiqué.
