US threatens Minsk with new sanctions if it helps Moscow in war

"We're going to continue to watch very closely, and the fact that we've watched very closely has led us to see very clearly the level of complicity, the level of cooperation between the Lukashenka regime and the Kremlin. That's why the Lukashenka regime is now subject to a bevy of sanctions. We'll look for additional means to hold Belarus accountable if it continues to cooperate with the Kremlin in this brutal war," the spokesman of the US State Department Ned Price said at a briefing.

Price also commented on Russian President Vladimir Putin's statement at a press conference after talks with his Belarusian counterpart that Russia has no intention of 'absorbing' any country, including Belarus:

"I think a statement like that has to be treated as the height of irony coming from a leader who is seeking at the present moment, right now, to violently absorb his other peaceful next door neighbor."
