The US is aiming to create conditions for Armenia to move away from its traditionally strong ties with Russia, James O'Brien, the US Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs, told a hearing held in the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations.

O’Brien lauded the bold steps taken by Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan to distance Armenia from Russia.

"A significant part of the Armenian population wants to move away from Russia. So we [American authorities] create the conditions for this,” said O’Brien.
