The chief of army staff, Col-Gen Nacmaddin Sadikov, paid a visit to military units close to the Armenian-Azerbaijani line of contact, the Ministry of Defense said today on its website.

Sadikov and military officers accompanying him will inspect the combat readiness of the frontline troops and their armament, the ministry said.

Azerbaijan has lost at least 17 troops in fighting with Armenian army units occupying Nagorno-Karabakh and seven surrounding districts since tensions escalated two weeks ago.

Armenians also suffered heavy losses.
