Norway will allocate 100 million Norwegian kroner (about 8.7 million euros) to continue the medical evacuation program for Ukrainians affected by the war, Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre said, reported from local media.

He noted that the funding will be used to evacuate severely wounded individuals for treatment in Europe.

"It's very important to evacuate some of the severely wounded for treatment. We have an aircraft and crew with great international recognition to carry out this work," he said.

He noted that he is in New York for the annual UN week, where he plans to discuss this initiative with international partners, including Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

Støre said that to date, 1,931 people, many of whom suffer from cancer or have received severe injuries during the war, including burns and limb fractures, have been evacuated to European countries. About 400 patients have been treated in Norway. The medical evacuation program started in August 2022. The wounded are transported on a converted SAS aircraft.

Initially, the agreement between Norway and the EU was valid until November, but now it has been extended until April of next year.
