Leadership in BRICS will pass to Brazil next year, and Russia will do everything possible to ensure the effectiveness of this transfer, Russian President Vladimir Putin said at the expanded BRICS summit meeting, reported from Russian media.

"Brazil is indeed taking over the BRICS chairmanship from us. We will do everything possible on our part to support you and to make this transfer effective. We are confident that the BRICS leadership is passing into reliable hands," he said.

The Kazan BRICS summit, which was attended by representatives from 36 countries and six international organizations, started on October 22.

The summit will be the final event within Russia's chairmanship in the association, which is held under the motto of strengthening multilateralism for fair global development and security.
