Senior Hamas official says open to deal with Israel

A high-ranking representative of the Palestinian militant group Hamas has expressed the organization's willingness to strike a deal with Israel regarding the Gaza Strip. The statement comes amidst the resumption of talks in Doha aimed at ending the conflict and securing the release of prisoners.

Reported from The Times of Israel that Husam Badran, a member of Hamas' political bureau in Qatar, confirmed in a statement released by the Shehab News Agency that reaching an agreement is possible. "Our demands are clear. A deal can be made if [Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin] Netanyahu commits to fulfilling what has already been agreed upon," the statement reads.

It remains unclear whether Badran's comments are in response to Egypt's proposal for a two-day ceasefire in Gaza to facilitate the exchange of four Israeli captives for several Palestinian prisoners. The Saudi news channel Al Arabiya reported that Hamas is prepared to accept the Egyptian proposal if Israel commits to considering it as part of a potential comprehensive deal.
