Russia is open to contacts with the US under Donald Trump's administration, with the ball now in the American court, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said, reported from TASS.

"President [of Russia Vladimir] Putin said at the Valdai International Discussion Club meeting that he is always ready for communication. It was not we who halted it - the ball is in their court now," Lavrov said, responding to the relevant question.

He emphasized that Russia is not building any expectations from the new US administration but will evaluate its specific actions. "There will be no expectations or speculation. We will judge by specific actions," the minister noted.
