Syrian President Bashar al-Assad has begun seeking contacts with Türkiye amid recent events in the country, reported from the newspaper Türkiye.

The publication, citing its sources, reports that the Syrian leader sent a proposal for negotiations to Turkish authorities through two intermediaries.

"Until now, Assad has not responded to Türkiye's extended hand," writes the newspaper, recalling Türkiye's initiatives to normalize relations with Syria.

Syria TV channel earlier reported that Assad allegedly ordered to send a delegation to Antalya for negotiations with Turkish authorities.

The newspaper Sözcü denied this information, citing sources in Turkish intelligence services.
