South Korean president faces potential travel ban

South Korean president faces potential travel ban
09.12.2024 10:00
The South Korean police are considering imposing a travel ban on President Yoon Suk Yeol following his attempt to declare martial law in the country. The move comes as part of an investigation into possible charges of rebellion against the president.

Reported from Associated Press, that the main opposition Democratic Party has labeled President Yoon's brief imposition of martial law as "unconstitutional, illegal rebellion, and a coup." The party has filed complaints with the police against at least nine individuals, including the president and the former defense minister.

While the head of state typically enjoys immunity from prosecution during their term in office, this protection does not extend to charges of rebellion or treason.
