French non-profit organizations (NGOs) have expressed dissatisfaction with the reconstruction of Notre Dame due to the use of 460 tons of carcinogenic lead to cover the roof and spires of the cathedral, according to RIA Novosti.

According to Benoit Martin, Secretary General of the Paris branch of the General Confederation of Labor trade union, the French have the right to know that lead particles can pose a health hazard. He called the use of this material in the reconstruction a "dangerous and irresponsible choice.

"The Supreme Council of Health spoke out against the use of lead to cover the roof of Notre Dame, the City Council of Paris Deputies also spoke out against it, but despite this, the work continued. The cathedral was rebuilt identical, while alternative materials, such as zinc, were available," the Secretary-General noted.

Earlier, French President Emmanuel Macron was shown Notre Dame restored after the fire. Notre Dame Cathedral is included in the list of world historical monuments and is one of the symbols of Paris.
