Iran prepares to execute man convicted of attacking Azerbaijan’s embassy

Iran has completed all preparations for the execution of Yasin Huseinzadeh, who carried out an armed attack on Azerbaijan’s embassy in Tehran in January 2023, judiciary spokesperson Asghar Jahangir said, according to IRNA.
"There is a final verdict. All preparatory work has been completed, and the judiciary is ready to enforce the sentence," Jahangir stated.
The attack occurred on January 27, 2023, when Iranian citizen Yasin Huseinzadeh stormed the Azerbaijani embassy armed with a Kalashnikov rifle, killing the head of security, Orkhan Asgarov, and injuring two staff members, Vasif Taghiyev and Mahir Imanov.
Following the attack, Azerbaijan’s Foreign Ministry evacuated embassy personnel and suspended the mission’s operations. The embassy resumed its work at a new location on July 15, 2024.
Orkhan Asgarov was buried in Baku’s Second Alley of Martyrs and was posthumously awarded the "For the Motherland" medal by Azerbaijan’s president. The injured staff members were also honored with state awards.
The trial against Huseinzadeh lasted two years, resulting in a death sentence that was upheld by Iran’s Supreme Court.
