Musk calls for defunding UN after Guterres’ remarks
04.06.2025 08:57

Entrepreneur Elon Musk has called for defunding the United Nations following comments by Secretary-General António Guterres regarding threats posed by digital platforms. Musk posted the call on his X social media account. “Defund the UN,” Musk wrote.

His comment was a response to another user’s post claiming that Guterres had “declared war on free speech.”

The post included a clip from a briefing in which Guterres said digital platforms are being used to “undermine science, spread disinformation, and promote hatred to billions of people.” He called this a global threat and urged for “clear and coordinated action.”

The user suggested Guterres was referring to social network X and other platforms.
