Azerbaijan uncovers widespread deception in home appliance sales

Azerbaijan’s antimonopoly regulator has taken action against six companies and entrepreneurs for misleading consumers and violating competition rules. Investigations into Baku Electronics, ABC Telecom, Trust Lux and several individuals revealed deceptive marketing practices regarding product origin.

Baku Electronics advertised YOSHIRO appliances as Japanese-made, ABC Telecom promoted HOFFMANN heaters as German, and Trust Lux sold Y.A.Ş products as Turkish despite Chinese origin.

Authorities also uncovered cases of selling counterfeit AUXs air conditioners and unlawful use of protected trademarks and geographical indications, including “ZAGAR BAKU” and “Ivanovka”. All violators were ordered to correct the breaches, while the AUXs case was referred to the Prosecutor General’s Office.
