Iran and Azerbaijan may expand cooperation in transportation, finance, energy, trade and security, according to Iranian media.

As reported by “Report”, this assessment appears in an article by Iran’s “Mehr” agency following Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi’s visit to Baku on 7–8 December.

According to the agency, deeper economic cooperation between the two countries could strengthen peace and stability in the region and support the development of strategic relations in the South Caucasus and the Caspian basin.

The article notes that Iran and Azerbaijan can become strong partners in transportation, energy, trade, banking, tourism and cross-border cooperation, as well as in coordinating efforts against terrorism, organized crime and drug trafficking.

Mehr adds that Araghchi’s visit signals Tehran’s intention to reinforce ties with Baku, and both sides are expected to create a legal and conceptual framework for broader multilateral cooperation in the future.
