Police prevent marriage of 14-year-old girl in Azerbaijan’s Tovuz region

Police in Azerbaijan’s Tovuz region have prevented the marriage of a 14-year-old girl, and one of her parents has been placed under administrative arrest, the Interior Ministry said.

According to the ministry, police received information about a planned wedding ceremony involving a girl born in 2011 in the village of Yukhary Oysuzlu.

Officers stopped the ceremony and summoned the parents to the local police station, where they were given preventive warnings and informed about legal requirements. An administrative report was filed and sent to court.

A court subsequently ordered the administrative arrest of one of the parents for one month.
