Azerbaijan drafts new fisheries law
Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Agriculture has drafted a new law on fisheries, Jeyhun Aliyev, head of the Fisheries and Aquaculture Centre under the ministry, said.
Speaking at a press conference on fisheries policy and measures planned for 2025, Aliyev said the draft law aims to simplify the legal and administrative framework for fisheries and aquaculture operators, streamline existing procedures and improve regulatory mechanisms.
He said the new rules are intended to create a more transparent and efficient operating environment, support the organisation and expansion of production, and enable more effective use of state support instruments.
Aliyev added that the drafting process included a detailed review of advanced international practices in fisheries and aquaculture, including ecosystem-based approaches, which were adapted to Azerbaijan’s national legislation.
