Iran deploys additional forces to Tabriz and Ardabil amid protests

Iran has deployed additional security forces and military units to the cities of Tabriz, Ardabil and Zanjan amid ongoing nationwide protests, according to Iran International.

The report said that activist Yurush Mehralibeyli, who advocates for the rights of South Azerbaijani Turks, was detained on Jan. 6.

Sources said the arrest followed a video he posted on Instagram, in which he spoke about Iran’s socio-economic and cultural conditions and voiced support for the protest movement.
