Azerbaijan and Saudi Arabia’s ACWA Power inaugurate 240 MW Khizi-Absheron wind farm
Azerbaijan President Ilham Aliyev on Thursday officially inaugurated the 240 MW Khizi-Absheron wind farm, the country’s first large-scale renewable energy project developed by an independent power producer.
The ceremony, held at the Gulistan Palace in Baku, marks a major milestone in Azerbaijan’s energy transition. Built by Saudi Arabia's ACWA Power with an investment of approximately $340 million, the wind farm is expected to generate 1 billion kWh of electricity annually. According to project specifications, the plant will save 220 million cubic meters of natural gas and offset over 400,000 tons of carbon emissions each year. The wind farm consists of 37 turbines distributed across the Khizi and Absheron districts and is capable of powering roughly 300,000 households.
