Aliyev says heavy rain paralyses urban transport
Heavy rain paralyses urban transport and creates serious problems, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev said at a meeting on the State Programme for improving water supply, rainwater and wastewater systems in Baku and the Absheron Peninsula for 2026–2035.
Aliyev noted that such problems are not unique to Baku or Azerbaijan. He said a new stormwater collector network would be built on 30 streets in the capital, which he said would bring significant benefits.
The president also said two more large reservoirs — Hakarichay and Bargushadchay — are planned for construction in the liberated territories. Preparatory work is already under way, and practical construction could begin later this year.
Aliyev added that several five-year regional development programmes have been implemented over the past 20 years. “As a result, we have resolved the main infrastructure issues. First of all, electricity supply now covers the entire country,” he said.
