Italy Solidifies Role as Europe’s Primary Hub for Azerbaijani Energy
Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov announced today in Baku that Italy remains Azerbaijan’s top trade partner, accounting for 46.7% of its total exports. Italy currently imports 45% of Azerbaijan's crude oil and 38% of its natural gas.
During the 6th Intergovernmental Commission meeting, a roadmap with 65 specific measures for 2026-2027 was signed, focusing on the "Middle Corridor" and green energy integration.
The partnership has evolved into a strategic synergy where Italy acts as a logistics hub for the Middle Corridor.
Italian firms like Ansaldo Energia are deeply involved in rebuilding energy infrastructure in Karabakh, while Azerbaijan's State Oil Fund (SOFAZ) has invested $2.8 billion in the Italian economy.
The collaboration with Italy’s CESI on the Black Sea Green Energy Cable further positions Azerbaijan as a future supplier of renewable energy to the EU.
