Gold Hits Historic Record Above $4,800 Amid Geopolitical Tensions

Gold Hits Historic Record Above $4,800 Amid Geopolitical Tensions
21.01.2026 13:30

Gold prices surged to an unprecedented high on Wednesday, 21 January 2026, breaking past the $4,800 per ounce mark for the first time.

The rally in precious metals is driven by intensifying geopolitical friction, specifically over the strategic status of Greenland, and renewed global trade disputes.

Spot gold rose 1.7% to a fresh peak of $4,844.39 per ounce, continuing a streak of record-breaking sessions.

Meanwhile, silver also notched a historic high, briefly touching $95 per ounce. Analysts note that a weakening US dollar and safe-haven demand are the primary catalysts for the surge as investors seek protection against market volatility.
