Azerbaijan arrests three suspected of plotting attack on foreign embassy
Azerbaijan’s State Security Service (SSS) said it had arrested three Azerbaijani citizens suspected of preparing a terrorist attack on the embassy of a foreign country in Baku.
The SSS said the suspects — Ilgar Guliyev, born in 2000, Amin Piriyev and Elvin Alizadeh, both born in 2005 — were allegedly planning the attack on religious grounds.
According to the security service, the men had established criminal links with members of the Islamic State’s “Vilayat Khorasan” affiliate and obtained items intended for use as weapons.
They were detained by SSS officers while approaching the area where the embassy is located. A court has ordered their pre-trial detention.
Investigative and operational measures are ongoing, the SSS said.
