Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan held a phone call with U.S. President Donald Trump to discuss bilateral relations and regional developments, Erdogan’s office said.

The two leaders discussed recent developments in Syria, efforts by the Gaza Peace Council, trade relations, defence cooperation, as well as broader regional and global issues, according to the statement.

Erdogan stressed the importance of strengthening cooperation between Turkey and the United States, saying that advancing ties across all areas served the shared interests of both countries.

He also underlined the need for the full implementation of the ceasefire and integration agreement in Syria, stressing coordination with U.S. and Syrian authorities.

Erdogan said he hoped the Gaza Peace Council would work effectively, adding that ending the humanitarian crisis and rebuilding the Gaza Strip would pave the way for lasting peace in the region.
