Almaty to host 2029 Asian Winter Games after Saudi postponement
ALMATY, Feb 5 (Xinhua/Report) – The 2029 Asian Winter Games will be held in Almaty, Kazakhstan, the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) said on Monday, after the event was moved from Saudi Arabia.
The OCA and Kazakhstan are expected to formalise the decision by signing the Host City Contract on Thursday in Milan, Italy.
Saudi Arabia had been awarded the hosting rights in 2022, but a joint statement last month from the Saudi Olympic and Paralympic Committee and the OCA said the event had been postponed indefinitely, paving the way for the change in host city.
