New cancer diagnoses among over-60s in Azerbaijan rise 7.6%

The number of people aged 60 and over in Azerbaijan diagnosed with a malignant tumour for the first time rose 7.6% in 2025 from a year earlier to 7,705, the State Statistics Committee said.

A total of 7,163 new cases were recorded in this age group in 2024. The annual increase was 542 cases, the largest rise in absolute terms among the age groups.

Among women aged 60 and over, new diagnoses increased 13.1% to 3,744 from 3,311, while among men they rose 2.8% to 3,961 from 3,852.

The largest percentage increase was recorded among people aged 35-39, with new diagnoses rising 8.2% to 658 from 608.

Across Azerbaijan, the total number of people diagnosed with a malignant tumour for the first time edged down to 15,144 in 2025 from 15,164 a year earlier.

The number among men fell to 6,787 from 7,113, while the figure for women rose to 8,357 from 8,051.
