Car traffic restrictions in central Baku to apply daily from Oct. 5

From Oct. 5, restrictions on car traffic on several central streets of Baku will be introduced on a test basis every day of the week, rather than only at weekends, the Azerbaijan Land Transport Agency (AYNA) said.

The new rules will cover the following areas:

• Zarifa Aliyeva Street, after its intersection with Rasul Rza Street;
• Abdulkarim Alizade Street;
• Haji Zeynalabdin Taghiyev Street;
• Tarlan Aliyarbeyov Street;
• Yusif Mammadaliyev Street.

The decision was made by the Transport Coordination Council to improve mobility, make it easier for pedestrians to move around and encourage walking.

Residents with individual parking permits, as well as vehicles providing emergency, medical, utility and logistics services, will be allowed to enter and leave the area.

According to AYNA, the initiative is aimed at expanding links between pedestrian zones, creating a more comfortable and safer environment in the city centre, and increasing the area’s tourism and business potential.
