Bakcell to bring the historical heritage of Icherisheher to life with digital technologies

Bakcell and the Icherisheher State Historical-Architectural Reserve Administration have launched a project aimed at presenting Azerbaijan’s historical and cultural heritage in a digital format.

As part of the initiative, a new-generation audio-visual guide combining augmented reality (AR) and artificial intelligence (AI) technologies will be introduced at the Palace of the Shirvanshahs and the Maiden Tower.

Through the audio-visual guide, visitors will be able to access information about the monuments in multiple languages, while AR technology will enable them to digitally explore the historical appearance of selected sites. AI technologies deployed as part of the project will provide visitors with a more interactive experience.

“Our historical heritage should not only preserve our past but also be passed on to future generations in a modern and engaging format. Rufat Mahmud, Chairman of the Board of the Icherisheher State Historical-Architectural Reserve Administration, noted that the innovations being introduced are accelerating the organisation’s transition to the Smart Heritage concept: “Our goal is to combine our historical heritage with modern technologies to create a unique experience for both residents and visitors to our city. Such digital approaches will contribute to the sustainable development of Icherisheher as a global tourism destination.”

As part of the partnership, innovative technologies and AI-powered solutions provided by Bakcell will support the Reserve’s digital transformation. The parties also plan to implement joint projects focused on developing interactive digital maps and audio-visual guide solutions, advancing a smart tourism ecosystem, as well as 3D scanning and modelling of historical monuments and creating their digital twins.
