Pashinyan proposes enclave swap for peace
Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan outlined his proposed principles for establishing peace with Azerbaijan during a live broadcast on social media. He stated that the final peace treaty should solidify Armenia's territory at 29,743 square kilometers, eliminate enclaves and exclaves on both sides of the border, and implement reciprocal territorial swaps of equivalent size.
Emphasizing that all transport routes and transit arteries must be reopened under the "Crossroads of Peace" framework, Pashinyan called on both nations to abandon mutual historical and territorial claims—including narratives surrounding Karabakh, Nakhchivan, or Western Azerbaijan. The Armenian prime minister added that his recent interactions with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev in Turkmenistan reinforced his conviction that lasting regional peace can be achieved on these terms.
