Death Toll from Floods in Turkey Rises to Nine
The death toll from severe flooding triggered by relentless rainfall in Turkey has climbed to nine, Istanbul Governor Davut Gül confirmed, noting that emergency rescue teams recovered two additional bodies.
The disaster caused severe disruption across Istanbul and neighboring Kocaeli province. Among the casualties was Turkmen citizen Murad Babajanov, whose body was discovered after he was reported missing in the floodwaters, while another body was recovered in Kocaeli following a 13-hour search-and-rescue operation. Heavy downpours persisting for several consecutive days have overwhelmed local infrastructure, and authorities caution that severe weather is likely to continue.
