Turkey Targets 1 Million Barrels per Day in Crude Oil Output
Turkey plans to raise crude oil production by its national oil and gas company, TPAO, to 550,000 barrels per day by 2028, with a long-term target of reaching 1 million bpd. The statement was made by Turkish Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar during the deployment ceremony of the country's first floating production platform, Osman Gazi, to the Black Sea.
The minister noted that over the past five years, discoveries of new reserves have allowed TPAO to double its output to approximately 300,000 barrels per day. Turkey continues extensive upstream exploration domestically and internationally, including operations in Azerbaijan, Somalia, Iraq, Pakistan, Hungary, Bulgaria, Oman, and Libya. Furthermore, Ankara intends to expand proven natural gas reserves at the Sakarya field in the Black Sea and accelerate drilling across southeastern Anatolia. Operating six deepwater drillships and two seismic exploration vessels, Turkey boasts the world's fourth-largest offshore energy fleet as it seeks a dominant role in regional energy production.
