Art of darkness - PHOTO

Photographer Alex Teuscher pictured a range of exotic creatures including tigers, rhinos and elephants with his artistic project which took him more than two years to complete.Mr Teuscher took over 200 photographs to get the perfect set, which was taken at zoos in Singapore and Switzerland.Mr Teuscher's subjects also include a baboon, a grey crown crane, a green tree python and a malay fish owl. Amazingly, he only got into photography three years ago when his father gave him an old SLR camera.Mr Teuscher, 31, from Geneva, Switzerland, said: 'The majority of these images were shot at the world-famous Singapore zoo and in Switzerland over the past couple of years.'Originally these were just shot as typical animal pictures. I went through them again a little while ago and noticed a certain trend, mainly in the eyes and the expressiveness.'I wanted to convey the emotion I saw in them and put the focus squarely on their faces as best I could. I think the result is not your usual every day animal wildlife pictures. 'My aim was to show the magnificence of these animals and capture a little bit of their soul. The black and white brings out their personality in my opinion.'Animals are extremely tough to photograph, especially when going for a portrait style and getting this set required a lot of patience. I must have taken 200 shots just to get the set.'I've only actually been doing serious photography for about the past three years. My father had asked me if I was interested in his old SLR camera as he rarely used it anymore.
