Azerbaijan House in London marks 5th anniversary

London hosted an event dedicated to the fifth anniversary of the Azerbaijan House.

The event was attended by the employees of Azerbaijan's Embassy in the UK, representatives of the Diasporas in London, and local and foreign communities, AzerTag news agency reported.

The participants kept silent for a moment in order to commemorate Lord Fraser, the late co-chair of the Anglo-Azerbaijani Society, who passed away at the age of 68 on June 22, 2013.

Afterwards, Tamara Dragadze, expert on the Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and teacher at the Oxford delivered a congratulatory message to the participants.

Representative of the Azerbaijan House in London Farida Panahova gave detailed information regarding the organization, saying the Azerbaijan House was established in 2006 at the initiative of Azerbaijani intellectuals, young professionals, and students living in UK.

The organization serves as a community center that promotes cultural activities and friendship between Azerbaijanis and the local community, she added.

Chairman of the Azerbaijan House in London Ali Tekin Atalar thanked the country's embassy in the UK and compatriots for helping the organization.

Atalar provided an insight into the activities of the Azerbaijan House, and expressed confidence that the organization would successfully represent the country's Diaspora.

Azerbaijani Ambassador to the UK Fakhraddin Gurbanov also addressed the event, and congratulated the Azerbaijan House on its fifth anniversary.

Gurbanov highlighted the importance of such organizations in expanding bilateral bonds between the UK and Azerbaijan.

The event participants then watched a documentary on the activities of the Azerbaijan House in London in the past five years.

The Azerbaijan House then presented Gurbanov with a keepsake as a sign of friendship.

The event continued with performing Azerbaijan's national music along with other international songs with different musical instruments.

Azerbaijan and the UK have benefitted from close bilateral partnership and cooperation since 1992 in the framework of international organizations such as the United Nations, OSCE, Council of Europe, and NATO.

Their relations covers a wide range of issues, from high-level political dialogue to growing trade and investment, as well as strengthening cultural and humanitarian ties.
