Agonising moment weightlifter dropped 545lbs on his chest - PHOTO+VIDEO

This is the painful moment a weightlifter dropped 545lbs on himself during a failed bench press. The man, referred to as 'Jake', can be seen straining as he struggles to lift the heavy metal bar - weighing more than three times that of an average person - into the air. However, he fails to sustain his grip on the weight and drops it - causing it to slam onto his chest. The agonising moment was captured on video by a female companion and later uploaded onto LiveLeak.com.Footage shows Jake, who is believed to be American, carefully positioning his hands and feet, before lying back on the bench. He then tenses as he receives the full weight of the metal bar, which has been released from the rack by spotters. Jake - who is wearing a red-and-blue lycra outfit with wrist supports and a belt - then bends his elbows and lifts his heels off the floor as he slowly starts to bring the weight down towards his chest. His body quivers as he gently touches the metal against his chest, before starting to push it back up into the air. However, this is when disaster strikes, as Jake struggles to sustain the immense weight above his body. He suddenly lets go of the metal bar - causing it to plummet onto his chest. His half dozen spotters jump back in shock, although two manage to compose themselves quickly enough to come to Jake's aid.The pair swiftly lift the 515lb metal bar off Jake's body, and can be seen struggling to secure it to the rack.Jake's female companion asks: 'Are you ok, Jake?' - to which he replies with a series of groans. The video ends with the weightlifer being checked over by spotters, while a man can be heard warning: 'Do not bring him up. Do not stand him up.'Despite being in pain, Jake escaped without any broken bones or serious injuries. The bench press has long been considered a potentially dangerous exercise. Last year, fitness fanatic Chris Bailey, from Portslade, East Sussex, was crushed to death after becoming trapped beneath a 40kg weightlifting bar. Ryan Kennely holds the world record for the bench press with his staggering 1,075lb lift - having broken Scot Mendelson's previous record of 1,009lb in 2008.(dailymail.co.uk)ANN.Az
