Azerbaijan opposition youth activists freed from prison

Two members of Azerbaijan’s opposition youth group Nida, Zaur Qurbanli and Uzeyir Mammadli, were released from prison today after they were pardoned by President Ilham Aliyev.

Qurbanli and Mammadli were among 87 prisoners pardoned by Aliyev ahead of the New Year and Solidarity Day of Azerbaijanis of the World.

The pardoned also included two pro-opposition journalists, Avaz Zeynalli and Sardar Alibayli, lawyer Qurban Mammadli and two people jailed in connection with anti-government riots in the town of Ismayilli in January 2013.
