There are fears the infamous Doomsday Clock could be about to tick closer to midnight.
The clock, which was created in 1947, is set to a certain number of minutes before midnight.
The closer the clock is to midnight, the closer the human race is to extinction.
On Thursday the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists (BAS) will announce if they have chosen to move the minute hand of the clock.
A "major" announcement has been promised by the group.
Growing fears over the situation in the Middle East, as well as the threat of nuclear war and climate change, could mean the clock edging closer to midnight.
Recent terrorist attacks in France could also push scientists into moving the clock forward.
It was last changed in 2012 when the time changed from six to five minutes before midnight.
Scientists made the call amid growing concerns over the safety of nuclear energy following the Fukushima nuclear meltdown.
The closest the clock ever got to midnight – and the end of the world – was in 1953 when the US developed the hydrogen bomb.
